A Portland man was sentenced today to more than five years in prison after pleading guilty for attempted first degree sex abuse.

Nate Justin Wheeler, of Northwest Portland, was arrested last June in the attack and charged with first-degree sex abuse.

Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Chris Ramras said Wheeler followed the student after she got off the MAX light-rail train, walked two blocks and entered an elevator at Neuberger Hall.

Wheeler then attacked her in the elevator, but the 23-year-old student fought him off, Ramras said, and he fled when the elevator doors opened. He was later arrested based on TriMet surveillance video and a tip.
